This publication traces the history of the Port Adelaide Football Club from the commencement of the South Australian Football Association (SAFA) in 1877 to the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of Australia’s nationhood in 1901. It is a season by season account of the main events of the club and includes for the first time, in any published form, the player and club records for each season. Photographs are presented and these usually occurred in posed studio portraits. Illustrations create an impression of match action and the appearance of Port Adelaide’s uniform against its varied opponents in the SAFA. Players are identified through the medium of constructed card like images in the first seasons of SAFA.
